Clean Cool Air at ScienceWorks

Air Quality at ScienceWorks

Did You Know?

ScienceWorks has some of the best air in town thanks to our excellent circulation and the Big Blue Air Scrubbers courtesy of Ashland Fire and Rescue. Clean air means a safe space for our community to take refuge from the smoke while enjoying educational and interactive fun for the whole family. ScienceWorks's pricing allows low-cost and free programming year-round for our community members most vulnerable to poor air quality.

ScienceWorks has air quality monitors inside the museum, installed and lovingly monitored by our friends at Oregon State University in collaboration with Harvard and Boston University as part of the Co-Benefits of the Built Environment Project. These monitors will be used to inform health interventions, strategies, and education that helps build an understanding of how to reduce exposure to harmful particles produced from controlled burning and wildfire smoke.

Real time readings of our interior AQI are avaiable at PurpleAir.com

Data gathered by PurpleAir is also used to help organizations like the EPA create Fire and Smoke Maps; they incorporate PurpleAir sensor data to assess real-time air quality levels during wildfires. NASA uses PurpleAir data to calibrate and validate satellite-based measurements of air quality. These ground-level sensors provide essential data that helps improve the accuracy of satellite observations, particularly for pollutants. This calibration is vital for enhancing the reliability of satellite data used in environmental monitoring and research. Learn more about data gathered by PurpleAir here.
