Dr Steven L. Hersch

MD, FACP, VPMA and Administrator of Asante Ashland Community Hospital

Steve joined Rogue Valley Medical Center as a hospitalist in 2002. Since then, he has held various roles as a hospitalist with Southern Oregon Hospitalists, courtesy staff with Ashland Community Hospital, and a board member for Asante Health Network. He has also been a member of Asante’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and is currently a member of the AACH Medical Executive and Credentials Committees. His prior experience includes ownership and physician, from 2007 – 2021, for personalized primary care and consultation practice, Meducation, PC. In addition, he was editor in chief for inpatient documents for ExitCare and clinical assistant professor of internal medicine with Western University of Health Sciences and the University of Southern California. Additionally, he was a full-time physician for Cedars-Sinai Medical Group in Sherman Oaks, CA, and Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA. Dr. Hersch began serving as VPMA and Administrator at Asante Ashland Community Hospital in September 2021. Before completing his doctorate at the University of Southern California, he attended the Chemical Engineering Program at USC. Dr. Hersch lives in Ashland with his wife and their teenage daughter. He enjoys sailing and spending time building his wood‐turning skills. In addition, he and his family enjoy movies, theater, and travel.

Dr. Andy Kuzmitz, MD

Hailing from South Bend, Indiana, Dr. Kuzmitz attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a BA in Biology. While there, he published a notable article in the Notre Dame Science Quarterly called "A Cosmological Model and Its Possible Implications Concerning Restrictions on Man's Knowledge." After completing UCLA Medical School, he spent five weeks in Bangladesh practicing rural medicine and finishing his family residency in South Bend. He then started practicing family medicine in Coos Bay and opened his practice in Ashland. In addition, he served as an emergency room doctor at Ashland Community Hospital. In 1999 he was the first person to CAT scan a dinosaur and published those findings in the journal Science. Andy is currently retired and serving on the Science Works Advisory Board at ScienceWorks.

Dr. Carolina Livi

PhD and Affiliate Professor

Dr. Carolina Livi holds a PhD in Molecular Developmental Biology from CalTech and was faculty at UTHSCSA and UTSA for seven years. Carolina transitioned from academia to industry in 2013, spending six years at Agilent Technologies as a bioinformatics analyst and academic segment manager. She is now back in academia as an Affiliate Professor of Biology at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, focusing on bioinformatics problems and soil microbiome measurements. Carolina also works with Akadeum as a science advisor and consultant and is Chief Business Development Officer for Numedon, Inc., a company she co-owns with her husband.

Alan Oppenheimer

Alan Oppenheimer is president of the Alan and Priscilla Oppenheimer Foundation. Founded in 2007 with his wife Priscilla, the foundation seeks to advance humanity through scientific research and education, with a current focus on personalized medicine and genomics.
