ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum

A Joint North Medford High School/NASA Project

On August 21, 2017, students will launch a high altitude balloon (HAB) flight during the total eclipse of the Sun from Southern Oregon. This student-led effort will see the shadow of the moon move across Oregon and Washington from the edge of outer space. For the first time ever, these images will be carried live on the NASA website around the world.

How can you help?
We need to raise $7000 to help our students to send a balloon to the edge of space.
The other teams in this project are university undergraduate students funded by NASA. The North Medford High School (NMHS) Team is one of only a handful of high school teams among these university teams! But they are on their own. NASA canít fund high school groups but NMHS can participate with your help. We know that this team will get incredible experience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and bring publicity for student achievement in Oregon Ė the Mail Tribune article View from 100,000 Feet demonstrates this.

To date, the cost of the NMHS project has been borne by the adult mentors to the project. These mentors will continue to support the project, but the team needs $7,000 for equipment for practice flights (including a Global Space Balloon Challenge next year) and for the NASA payload developed for the 2017 flight.

ScienceWorks is supporting this funding effort and members of its ScienceWorks Science Advisory Board have generously offered to match, dollar-for-dollar, your donations to this inspiring project.
