ScienceWorks Camp Program Assistant

Commitment and compensation:
  • This is a part time, seasonal position, up to 40 hours (30 hours of program support, up to 10 hours of training and preparation as assigned)
  • Spring Break Camp runs 3/25/13-3/29/13
  • $9/hour
  • Plan and implement engaging programming for campers in grades K-6. Programming may include group games, exhibit exploration, or other activities that utilize exploration and active learning. Program Assistants will submit daily plans prior to the week of camp.
  • Supervise campers during extended care periods (pre-care, lunch bunch, post-care) to ensure safety.
  • Provide general camp support as needed during either the morning or afternoon session. Model a team player attitude and take the initiative to “see the need, meet the need.”
  • Model excellent child management and respectful interaction.
  • Wildly positive attitude and the ability to communicate clearly and kindly with adults and children.
  • Ability to arrive on time for all shifts, and stay to the end of every shift. Shifts run 8:00am-2:00pm or 11:30-5:30.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to make decisions quickly and independently with the safety and best interest of all campers in mind
  • Dedication to excellence and the ability to hold high standards with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail in planning and preparation. Ability to anticipate challenges and create contingency plans.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm about the world around us and a desire to share their passions with children.

1) a cover letter describing why you are interested in the position and what strengths you hope to bring to the role. 
2) a sample plan that shows how you would lead a group of 20  K-6th grade campers for a one hour lunch bunch. This is a period of time from 12-1pm each day when instructors can eat and reset for the afternoon session. The program assistant is entirely responsible for planning and leading this portion of the day. There will be two program assistants available to lead the activities, so please indicate what you would have each adult do with campers, how you would divide the campers (if you choose to split the group), and what campers would be doing (including eating lunch brought from home).
