Two Guys From Medford Fly NASA's SOFIA

NASA and the German Space Agency operate the world’s largest flying observatory called SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy). Local astronomy enthusiasts Robert Black and Dave Bloomsness spent over 20 hours observing star formation and star destruction as part of NASA’s “Airborne Astronomy Ambassador” Program. Come hear about Robert and Dave’s great adventure.

Robert Black is the Planetarium Director / Astronomy Teacher at North Medford High School from 2002-present.  He is a 27 year veteran public school science teacher, 19 in Oregon.

Dave Bloomsness has been an Amateur Astronomer for 30 years. He's been a member of the Southern Oregon Skywatchers since their 2nd meeting in the early 1990's. Over the last 12 years he has spent countless volunteer hours helping Robert Black mentor NMHS Senior Students with their Astronomy based Senior Projects.
