Tinkering Fundamentals: A Constructionist Approach to STEM Learning
Tinkering activities provide a powerful way to inspire students' interest, engagement, and understanding in science. The Tinkering Fundamentals course will help educators and enthusiasts develop a practice of tinkering and making. This course will focus on key design elements of high-quality, science-rich tinkering activities, effective facilitation strategies and environmental organization. This innovative mixed format course, offered in partnership with ScienceWorks, Exploratorium, and SOU, comes to you from national leaders and local experts in tinkering and science education.

Inquiry Educator Workshop
Bring hands-on inquiry training right to your staff with this engaging and broadly applicable professional development. Educators learn the basics of inquiry instruction, explore ways in which inquiry may be used across the curriculum, and leave this training with concrete resources to support inquiry instruction in their own classroom.
Program length: 2 hours
Cost: $20/educator; $200 minimum

The Illuminating Science Inquiry Program
This four-day program in your classroom will provide you with a model for teaching Inquiry, while engaging your students in an hands-on introduction to forming testable questions, designing repeatable experiments, and collecting data to analyze. After participating in the modeled Inquiry, students conduct their own experiment and produce a scorable practice work sample under the supervision of a ScienceWorks Outreach Educator.
Classroom teachers participate at every stage of the inquiry process and receive complementary science inquiry curricula for future use. NEW THIS YEAR: Teachers who host a week of this program may then check out materials for select units to use in their own classroom for a week. Additionally, the ScienceWorks instructor coaches teachers in evaluating student work samples using state assessment rubrics.
We offer labs specifically geared to match Oregon State Science Standards for 3rd-8th grades, but other interested grade levels may also participate, and your instructor will adjust the curriculum to match your classroom needs when possible.
